Dear Students,
In our collective response to COVID-19, the F&M community has had to be adaptable in numerous ways. Things we previously thought were constants have suddenly become variables. As many of you have brought to my attention via personal emails, the migration to online learning has highlighted the need for all of us to be flexible, adaptable, and open-minded.
In that spirit, and having followed discussions among the faculty, I would like to amend the policy to allow current first-year through junior students the option of selecting a P/NP grading system for a particular course until May 25th – a week after grades have been submitted.
Please note there is an important exception to this change: The Registrar must certify the transcripts of graduating seniors by May 16th in order for them to be cleared to graduate. Thus, graduating seniors must select a P/NP by May 14th.
The change in P/NP policy means additional work for the Registrar’s Office staff. Please be patient with the Registrar, Laura Medvic, and her hard-working staff as they adjust to this change in policy.
I appreciate the way you have responded to the myriad changes this semester has brought. I hope this change in the P/NP policy will diminish some of the pressure you are feeling as we approach the end of an incredibly eventful semester.
Sincerely,
Cam
