Undoubtedly the best night for a horror movie to be released is Friday the 13th – which is exactly what the new film Speak No Evil did. Premiering last Friday, September 13, this movie was directed by James Watkins and based on a 2022 Danish film of the same name.

It starts with a couple and their daughter going on vacation to another family’s country house, without realizing the nightmare that was to come. This psychological thriller has drama around every corner and gets more and more eerie as it continues. It has unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat and an intense and unpredictable ending sequence.

James McAvoy (Split, Glass) delivers a creepy and mysterious performance of a man full of secrets and hidden motives while also adding dark humor that keeps the audience guessing – is he for real? Is this where everything blows up?

Protagonist Mackenzie Davis opposes him by being the strong and skeptical mother needed to balance the dynamics since her husband, played by Scoot McNairy, is too busy being insecure and troubled by their relationship’s past.

The two child actors in the movie further the plot and up the stakes as the film progresses, portraying intelligence and fear even though they can, as the title suggests, Speak No Evil

Overall, the pacing, actor performance, and plot twists make the film one you should definitely go see, especially during this spooky season.
