Premiering in January at Sundance and just last week on Netflix, It’s What’s Inside promises to keep you up at night – with questions. It offers the perfect Halloween movie for people who would rather skip the gore and jumpscares and instead have a mind-bending experience.

This sci-fi thriller written and directed by Greg Jardin centers on a group of college friends reuniting for a wedding, starring Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Bloomgarden, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Reina Hardesty, and Devon Terrell. When a surprise guest (David Thompson) arrives with a machine allowing them to swap bodies with each other, this reunion takes a drastic turn.

Swapping bodies with each other reveals hidden secrets, identity crises, and long-buried feelings for one another. The unique editing and cinematography allow the audience to somewhat follow the characters in their journeys while also leaving room for questions and mystery. When deaths occur and cops are called, the characters must figure out what to do when their bodies no longer line up with their minds.

With plot twists and crazy edge-of-your-seat scenes, this film will have you staring at the television (or laptop) screen and wondering what will happen next. And a little tip: if you’re expecting a satisfying ending where everything is tied up in a nice bow, don’t. Instead, expect to still be questioning it days later.

For me, this film was an instant favorite and will definitely be rewatched with whoever I can force into watching it with me.

So if you’re looking for a movie to give you a scare centered around the potential of technology when mixed with people carrying vendettas and secret feelings – as well as taking drugs – this is the spooky season movie for you.
