Shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, residents of Brooks College House received an email notifying them of a recent wastewater testing result and requiring all residents in Marshall and Buchanan dorms to immediately quarantine and sign up for a mandatory COVID-19 test on Tuesday.
In the email, Interim Vice President of Student Affairs Deb Moriarty informed students that they would be tested on Tuesday between 9:00am to 4:15pm.
“Complying with this testing is an essential part of compliance with the Franklin & Marshall Pledge. Failure to comply with this requirement will be considered a breach of the Student Pledge and and may result in disciplinary action.” wrote Moriarity.
Students are expected to quarantine in their rooms until they receive their results. Students can expect to receive their results within 72 hours of their test.
“Safety precautions that include immediate testing and a request to remain in residence halls, except to obtain meals to-go, are being taken today,” Dean Brian Samble, Dean of Brooks College House told The College Reporter on Tuesday. “I will be tested alongside the Brooks students to ensure we are doing our part to ensure this residential experience continues to be a safe endeavor.”
In total, about 90 students will be directly impacted by the mandatory quarantine and will be unable to attend any in-person classes or other activities until receiving a negative test result, according to an email sent to Brooks College House residents from Samble.
