Pop star Nick Jonas is heading back to Broadway to star in The Last Five Years, marking the show’s first-ever Broadway production. Starting March 18 at the St. James Theatre, Jonas will share the stage with Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren in this intimate musical about love, dreams, and relationships in New York City.
Jonas plays Jamie, a rising novelist whose career is on an upward trajectory, while Warren plays Cathy, an aspiring actress navigating the challenging world of New York theater. The musical uniquely tells their love story from both perspectives – Jamie’s story moves chronologically, while Cathy’s happens in reverse, with the two characters coming together only once at their wedding in the middle of the show.
Though The Last Five Years has become a fan favorite with countless performances in theaters around the country and even spawned a 2014 movie, this is actually the first time the musical will be performed on a Broadway stage. Tony Award nominee Whitney White directs this fresh take on Jason Robert Brown’s emotional musical.
This isn’t Jonas’s first time on Broadway – far from it. Before he became famous with the Jonas Brothers, he was already a theater kid at heart. He performed in several Broadway shows, playing Gavroche in Les Misérables at just 10 years old and appearing in Beauty and the Beast, Annie Get Your Gun, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2012.
The show will run for just 14 weeks at the St. James Theatre (141 W 44th Street), giving both theater lovers and Jonas fans a chance to see this unique musical on Broadway. With its amazing music, talented cast, and relatable story about love and career goals, The Last Five Years is set to be one of this spring’s must-see shows.
