For those of you who don’t know who Sabrina Carpenter is, she was one of the main characters on Girl Meets World. You may also know her from her earworms that have dominated the radio and internet recently. The former Disney Channel star has had a graceful transition into her career as a popstar and has captured the hearts of many with her most recent release, Short n’ Sweet. Short n’ Sweet is one of six albums.

A Quakertown native, Carpenter initially found success in her roles on the Disney Channel, as well as recording various songs reflective of her adolescence in her teenage years. In 2023, she found success with her single “Feather”, off her album emails i can’t send fwd. Carpenter has recently become a household name in pop this summer, creating much anticipation for her release Short n’ Sweet.

She poses angelically on the album cover, her soft gaze directed at the viewers, drawing our focus to her rosy cheeks and green eyes. The red lipstick mark on her shoulder stands out against the solid blue backdrop. Her two charming singles, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” topped the charts this summer with their catchy rhymes and seductive self-confidence. Carpenter’s lyrics have a distinct style: the upfront sass resonates with listeners which makes her personality very much present. She has no shortage of snide remarks to fire back at the men in her life. For example, she gets straight to the point in the fourth track: “I know you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed.”

Notably, her opening track, “Taste”, hooks listeners with its catchy chorus and themes of bitterness and self satisfaction. This song has had Instagram and TikTok by the throat as users scramble to earn a decoration on their profiles after posting it. Carpenter also explores her own longing and desperation (and forgone gay awakening) in “Slim Pickins”, a country-tinged love letter to the good guys out there (or the ones that at least breathe.) It’s clear that many men love her, but she has had bad luck in finding one loyal to her.

Her musical style is fresh and catches the attention of a wide array of listeners. Its bubbly beats and synth waves are enough to make us question what direction the future of pop music will take. Overall, this is a great album to listen to as the summer comes to an end, but you can listen to it anytime to be transported to a warm day under bright blue skies. Sabrina Carpenter has truly cemented her success in pop stardom and as listeners we cannot wait to see what her future holds.
