On Saturday, October 28th Kappa Sigma and Chi Omega partnered to host a Halloween Haunted House for the Franklin & Marshall and Lancaster community at large. Over 100 guests attended the event at the Kappa Sigma chapter house, which was put together for the 29th straight year and for the 1st time this year at Kappa Sigma’s new location on College Avenue. Children and their families, as well as students and administrators of the College, took a tour through the chapter house, which contained scary decorations and frightening interactions with Kappa Sigma brothers and Chi Omega sisters.
The tradition began 29 years ago as a result of regulations from the City of Lancaster that prohibited children to trick-or-treat in the streets due to the concerns of safety. Kappa Sigma used this as an opportunity to turn their past home of 249 North Charlotte Street into a fun, welcoming, and frightful event to celebrate Halloween in Lancaster. Kappa Sigma and Chi Omega have worked hard annually to co-host the event, which was awarded last year as Most Outstanding Community Service Event in the Central Pennsylvania district. Kappa Sigma and Chi Omega also extended their partnership this year, working with the F&M Theatre Department to help design the Haunted House and provide a more authentic and unique experience for its visitors. Community service chairs for each organization, John Rusbasan and Elif Basci, made this event for the community possible.
This event marks the start of the Haunted House experience at Kappa Sigma’s new chapter house. The organizations look forward to continuing their tradition as they build great relationships with the local community while connecting the students of Franklin & Marshall with the people of Lancaster.
