The men’s ultimate frisbee team is well into its Fall season, already with two tournaments under its belt. The team competed in the Second Annual Jersey Devil Tournament and the F&M Tournament, which the team hosted just two weekends ago. At the two tournaments, the team finished fourth out of 16 and eight out of 16, respectively.
“Tournaments are a great experience,” said Tyler Haas ’16, member of the F&M men’s ultimate frisbee team. “You spend the whole day playing ultimate, and even the downtime between games is great.”
On Nov. 2 and 3, the team will travel to Haverford College in Lower Merion, Penn., where the team will compete in the Haverween Tournament. At this tournament, the team plays a full day in costume.
The team prides itself on its team unity and coordination, even across both the men’s and women’s teams.
“The camaraderie between all ultimate players, not just the ones on your team, is something I don’t see in many other teams,” Haas said.
The team has certainly revamped its program in recent years.
“We are looking towards making it to Regionals for the third year straight in the Spring semester,” said Pat Sheil ’15, president of the men’s ultimate frisbee team. “Our team has been working on keeping up with ultimate programs from bigger schools such as Lehigh.”
The team has been working on both creating team chemistry, as well as practice on a fairly regular basis.
“Our goals for the year are to create a fun atmosphere where people can play ultimate, hang out, and be a family,” Sheil said.
The team practices Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and coordinates a co-ed scrimmage with the women’s team on Friday.
“I would tell anyone who is interested in joining the team to come to a practice, lace up your shoes, and run around with us,” Sheil said. “If you like playing, come on it and play with us, and if ultimate isn’t for you we can still hang and be friends.”
